This exhibit features an anterior skeletal view of the comminuted, depressed left frontal bone skull fracture depicting the post-accident condition. Next, four steps of the cranial osteoplasty are illustrated in graphic detail. The first step shows a scalpel used to extend the large laceration over the fracture exposing the bone fragments. The second step shows the fragments being elevated from the dura and removed. A third image shows copious amounts of irrigation used to debride the wound. The final step shows that the fracture fragments are put back together with plates and screws and a titanium mesh is placed over the inferior defect, not covered by bone fragments. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
