Progression of Surgical Bladder Injury - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing

This medical exhibit begins with one sagittal (side cut-away) view of the female pelvis providing an overall orientation to the normal anatomy of this region. This side cut-away shows the proximity of the urinary bladder to the vagina and uterus. A box is drawn around the region of the bladder and vagina to correspond with the following enlargements that illustrates the progression of the post-operative condition: Eventual condition with complete erosion of the posterior bladder wall and the offending sutures just hanging in this region. This defect will be based on the findings described in the operative report for the repair procedure but will clearly show the massive section of bladder missing with leakage of urine out into the surrounding abdomen and pelvis.
